Technologically Challenged

Well it seems I'll be needing help downloading the new software that I bought. Hopefully the guy I hired to help me is good (and reasonably priced). I hope it goes smoothly so I can progress naturally as I build information websites.

World Poker Tour

Man, this poker thing has taken the country by storm. I'm watching The World Poker Tour on the Travel Channel and I must admit it's very interesting. Some pretty sharp guys to be playing at this level, that's for sure. As for the prize money - holy s%&*!

Navy Pier

I went down to Navy Pier in Chicago this weekend. The Budweiser Clysdales were there. Massive animals, some weighing in at over 2200 pounds.

We actually sampled quite a bit of Budweiser as well. It was a beautiful day so we went up on the giant Ferris Wheel.

DSL Internet

What exactly does DSL of DSL Internet mean?

First off DSL stands for digital subscriber lines and these are different technologies than cable modems, but both provide dedicated connections to a service, and they are both always on, unlike dial-up modems. DSL is a point-to-point technology that offers high-speed transmission over standard copper telephone wiring.

DSL can carry both voice and data signals at the same time in both directions. There are many versions of DSL with varying transmission speeds. The percentage of homes in the United States with broadband is expected to increase from 5% in 2000 to 66% in 2008, according to a study by Goldman Sachs.

Broadband will be driven by by an increase in consumer adoption of cable modem and DSL technology. Recently, companies providing DSL have been competing with cable companies to provide faster services.

A benefit of DSL is that you can use the phone at the same time you use the web, so you do not need a seperate telephone line. However, DSL speeds are tied to the distance between the user and the central office. Also, DSL is not available everywhere.
